ISOLA DI PONZA
It is the biggest of the Pontine Islands. The town was settled in 1700, when the Borboni built the harbour and the church dedicated to SS. Trinity. Two thousand of years ago Ponza was place for the exile of important Roman people like Nero and Agrippina. The island is very fascinating: the half-circle of white and pink houses that surrounds the harbour, the small cemetery and the profile of the island offer a view of touching beauty. Ponza is a volcanic island whose indented coast has been modelled during the centuries by sea-storms. Its soundings are of a never seen beauty and variety; all kind of Mediterranean sea flora and fishes live this amazing depth. Sharp rocks, sea caves and a transparent sea make Ponza one of the most beautiful islands of Italy and maybe in the world; a paradise for divers and fishers. The mild weather and the tasty traditional cooking make a holiday here a magic dream in every period of the year.
